ImageAll petite women nurse a secret desire of being a few inches taller for they feel they are not adequate to carry with panache the sleekest of pants, short numbers or a frilly skirt.

One last time ladies, height has nothing to do with your fashion sense. By picking the right outfit that compliments your figure while being mindful of the colour and accessories, you can make a world of difference to your overall appearance and confidence level. And be assured heads will turn, height notwithstanding.

Fashion designer Gautam Gupta shares his ideas on dressing up women not blessed with good height. Try them, they just might work for you.

Pick a single colour: When a woman dresses up all in one colour, she presents one coherent visual image to those who see her, and it's a vertical image.

Wear clothes that fit well: Avoid garments that have a lot of design, patterns or large prints, because all that extra fabric adds bulk and can make you look stubby.

Select outfits with vertical lines: Vertical lines draw the eye up and down rather than side to side, and thus make the wearer look leaner and longer. There are four ways that vertical lines may be created with clothing - stripes, seams, fashion details that appear vertical and vertical panel of fabric.

V-shaped neckline: Such neckline styles aid in creating the illusion of height.

Accessorise but with care: Wear high heels, avoid bulky garments and oversized handbags.

Skip short skirts: The hem of a mini-skirt worn by a petite woman falls across a thick part of the thigh, making it more noticeable and making shorter legs look even shorter.

Keep belts narrow: Keep belts slim and match them with your outfit if you want to wear a belt. Wide or contrasting belts cut the figure in half and break up the vertical illusion that we want to achieve.

Go for pants with straight legs: Wear jeans and trousers with straight legs. To keep a slim line, choose pants without cuffs, bulky pockets, or pleats.
