On a random survey, the net or the bangle mehendi is a hot favourite followed by the shaded red and black designs with thick borders as a close second. Other favourites included rose and bangle mehendi. "We also apply Marwadi, Jaini and Pakistani mehendi, all of which have distinguishing features. The experimental ones also go for designs in black, silver, golden, green and blue mehendi where the borders are made with the colours and are filled with natural mehendi. People also ask for sparklers or coloured mehendi matching their dresses on special occasions," added Rourkela-based artist Dipika Parikh, etching an intricate design on the palms of a PYT.
"Applying stone-studded glitter hand mehendi stickers may be hassle free, but they fade away after a few washes. In contrast, the traditional mehendi lasts for quite a few days and is easy on the palms," she added.
